Unlike child support, spousal support is often very difficult (if not impossible) to modify after the divorce is final, so getting it right the first time is a must!
My question is how does one get a hostile STBX to mediation? In Colorado, the courts will require mediation prior to the final hearing. I've asked for mediation as soon as possible as her demands are 56% of my income for 15 years. We were married over 25 years so the time is a bit long but the amount is not possible.
There is no way to reach a settlement when the demands are that high. I'm trying to persuade her to go to mediation prior to the court date (mid June) but she won't unless I up my offer. We both have attorneys but that doesn't really help in this issue.
My logic is that a mediator will bring reality for both of us and potentially break the deadlock.
Any thoughts on how I can convince her to come to the table?
