Husband owes me money (married 2+ years) for debt I paid off for him - took equity out of MY house to pay his credit cards. He moved out in February - my idea. We are trying to work the financial aspects out. He has offered to pay HALF of what "we" borrowed (against MY credit line) and unfortunately this will probably be the way the cookie crumbles in Georgia.... His NEW PROPOSAL is this: Assuming that neither of us plan to remarry any time soon, or at all, why don't we just stay "married"- he will help me more financially/keep me on his health insurance, and I will be a "tax benefit" to him. **Please tell me what is up with this?! 'Just an innocent suggestion? or is he pulling the wool over my eyes?! He has a history of careless spending/running up credit cards, etc. I feel there is more to his "suggestion" than he is revealing. Any ideas?
I don't know if Georgia is a 50/50 split state, but as long as you stay married, any debt he runs up will become your debt too. So, if he has a spending history, you will be responsible for it.
