Divorce Support Forums: spousal support question

I make 55, my wife makes 90. We have been married 12 years have two younger children, This is going to be a very amicable divorce- sell the house and split all property and 401K equally and no debts. We plan to split child custody equally as well.

My wife is even agreeable to giving me some money as I dont want there to be a vast difference in our living arrangements with the children- like her having a 3 bedroom nice condo and me in a 1 bedroom apartment- we live in northern suburbs of Chicago.

if her pre tax is around 3K more per month would I be able to get anything and for how long? I dont want to live off her forever and dont even feel I should get half the difference or anything as she does work hard, but I dont want the kids to see me as the poor parent and rather be with mom.
