This is a recopy of what I originally posted about the article ...

============================================================
Increasing numbers of middle-aged men are going off sex, according to relationship experts.

Counselling and sex therapy charity Relate says it has seen a 40 per cent increase in men who simply cannot be bothered to make love to their wives and partners.
============================================================

What I think people are not grasping is that (1) it is a significant increase (40%) - or decrease, depending on how you look at it - and (2) it is the fact that it's the men's partners/wives. Those two things, IMHO, are the crucial points of this article. What this is telling me (at least) is that something dramatically has happened in a short time frame that is causing men to lose interest in "making love" to their partners. The article DOES say "these men haven’t simply gone off their partner but off sex altogether", but I think that's an inconclusive statement since (1) they are already committed to a woman, and (2) the study was about men with partners, and does not include single/unattached men.

TOO LATE TO TRY AND SOUND LIKE YOU WERE HAVING AN OPEN-MINDED DEBATE. PEOPLE HAVE GRASPED PERFECTLY WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO SAY. YOU’RE BASICALLY SAYING YOU THINK THAT NOW WOMEN HAVE A ROLE IN SOCIETY BEYOND THE KITCHEN AND HOME, THAT THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DECLINE IN A MAN’S SEX DRIVE. IT'S NICE TO KNOW I COULD BE SO POWERFUL! BUT YOU'VE STILL CHOSEN TO IGNORE SOME MUCH GREATER CAUSES FOR LOST SEX DRIVE AND FUNCTION - ALCOHOL, POOR HEALTH, MENTAL HEALTH, WEIGHT. TAKE A LOOK ON THE INTERNET. THERE'S PLENTY OF RESEARCH ON THAT, NONE OF THEM MENTION WOMEN AS THE REASON. AND HERE'S WHAT YOU SAID EARLIER. YOU MADE YOURSELF VERY CLEAR:

-----------------------------------------------------------

Women today are much different from woman say just 10-20 years ago. Call it "womens liberation", call it "womens empowerment", call it whatever you like. Increasingly, women are taking a more "masculine" role in our society (i.e., working more, entrenching themselves in traditional male roles - even becoming "stronger" in the assertive sense), while at the same time men are losing a lot of the things that have defined them as men in the past, and the two may be just coincidental or, as I believe, proportionally linked.

What I think is happening is that men are psychologically losing themselves today as their traditional roles in a family (and even society) are being threatened with extinction. I fear us men are slowly becoming less beneficial as women become more entrenched in traditional male roles, along with legislation/laws/judgements that further erode our traditional place in society. As I mentioned before, men - especially as we age - become more psychologically attached to sex, so I think the two are butting heads, therefore, the decline in sexual drive

I THINK I'VE ONLY LOST INTEREST IN SEX BECAUSE I CURRENTLY ONLY ASSOCIATE SEX WITH BEING WITH MY X WIFE. I SUPPOSE THAT IF I HOOKED UP WITH SOME OTHER RECENTLY DIVORCED (OR STBD) RED HOT MAMA THE OLD WEENER WOULD STIFFEN UP RIGHT QUICK I RECKON.

AS FAR AS "STAYING IN THE KITCHEN" I DON'T REALLY GIVE ONE GOOD FF ABOUT THAT AND I CAN PROBABLY COOK BETTER THAN MOST OF THE WOMEN ON THE FORUM ANYWAY WTF.

AND IF YOU MAKE METRIC ASS-LOADS OF MONEY SO THAT WE CAN TRAVEL AND HAVE A FUN LIFE SO MUCH THE BETTER.

I RECKON.

YOUR UTILIZATION OF THE TERMINOLOGY "OUR" IN YOUR REPLY TO ME MAKES ME SOMEWHAT UNCOMFORTABLE ATVILLAS. WAS THAT AFTER ONE OF THE PACKER GAMES? I DON'T RECALL.

Well, I think I can tick those boxes. And you seem to tick a few boxes too. When do we go fishing?

(And no "grappling hooks", I promise.)

:)

Yes, I gave a perfectly plausible opinion ... And?

BTW, you bringing up the internet is interesting as I hadn't thought of that aspect before (as it relates to this article). Could go either way, I suppose.

You see Stolz? If all women thought about was laying the table instead of getting laid on the table, well, you'd miss out on some of the best fun to be had in the kitchen!

Yes. Sex is great, and great sex is even greater - no argument there. But if all it took was a kitchen table and the desire, I (and I'm sure most men on this web site) probably wouldn't even be here.
