I was just wondering if all states/judges do this? and if so what do you have to do in order to ask for it before you give up?

I live in NY and here they don't force you to go to marriage counseling. I have never heard of that....but that might be a good idea!

Marriage counseling is generally something you have to initiate yourself. If you want to try and save a marriage it's a good idea because you can work with your partner and try to improve on issues that are troubling the relationship. Search for Family Resource Centers in your area. They can help give you a database of organizations/groups that offer marriage counseling or marriage therapy. You can also contact your local courthouse and they should be able to give you a list of court approved family resource centers.

Thanks for the information. i'll make some calls tomorrow and see what i can come up with. i know some judges here in pa if the judge can't see your marriage as “irretrievably broken” they make u do counseling. but i'd love to work on things and try for the kids
