i've been married now 13 years, husband left a note was leaving and wanted divorce. i am 6 months out of my second back surgery, haven't worked in almost 5 years. Filing disability paperwork. i am afraid to leave the house, don't know what my rights are. I worked only 4 years of the marraige and that was before any back surgery. Won't be able to work at all in future. Also found out his cell phone bill was full of two women's numbers with text and pictures for last 5 months. I'm afraid i'll lose my insurance, don't have any family to help me, what about my vehicle, the house. scared about all of it. he said he had seen a lawyer. i know to not agree anything without talking to lawyer. He took all checkbooks with him too, Anyone got any advice or help? can I change the locks? I live in alabama. thanks
Yes, you may change the locks. You need to get a lawyer. Once divorce is filed, he won't be allowed to remove you from insurance until the divorce is final.
Be aware though that if he hasn't already filed for divorce he could do whatever he wants with the checking and insurance. Get to an attorney and file to protect yourself.

quickly. Then put your attorney to work. Since you are not working, it is highly possible that your ex will have to pay the attorney fees (since he left). Change the locks.
