You can buy a book at Barnes & Noble for $30 it's called Michigan Divorce Resource w/o minor children. The book has all the instructions you need to "do it yourself" and the forms are included. It will cost you the filing fee, etc. Probably under $300. Save yourself the $$$ and do it yourself.
Just know that anything purchased during the marriage, no matter who paid for it (cars, houses, etc.), belong to both of you, and their value will be split upon divorce. The average contested divorce costs $28,000. I suspect child custody is involved with many of those cases. Otherwise, simply fairness can cut the costs probably to a few hundred, to a couple thousand, depending on how much use an attorney.
I do know one she has done many high profile cases, she honest and hard working, she's in her sixty's and has done well with custody cases (i know not your problem) but you want to get what is right fully yours and she is tough. I wish she was in The Grand rapids area..I'm still looking for one..If you Private mail me I'll give you her name and anyone else that needs a lawyer in Wayne county.
