I have no idea where to begin. I was married in the state of ohio in 2000 but we were living in Illinois. in 2003 we moved to colorado he left in october of 2004 and moved back to Illinois. We were in contact for about a year after he left and due to financial reasons we couldn't afford a divorce and haven't pursued it. I have been trying to contact him because even though i still have ALL the debt that accrued in our marriage i feel i need to get this ball rolling. I don't have any idea where to begin and can't really afford to pay a lawyer for even a consultation so i thought about something online. I am not sure if that's possible considering I haven't heard from him in quite a long time. For at least 6 months now i have actively been trying to contact him and while i have his moms cell phone Number she is not calling me back with his contact information. What kind of options do I have and where could i go to get information on divorce laws and even if i can file for a divorce here in colorado where i've lived since 2003.

The only state you'll be able to file is your state of residence - Colorado.

You can do a simple divorce without a lawyer but yours has the complications of marital debt and AWOL spouse. You will need legal help. If you truly can't afford a lawyer, start looking around for legal aid.
