A few of these I've seen (one just recently [#2]). I've never seen the #1 ad, but it was very disturbing as it epitomizes many women today (using a child, though, was even worse).

I haven't seen any of them all the way thru, I turn the channel. Some of them are down right infuriating. It blows my mind that women think that just because they can give birth makes them the better parent. My X used to FORGET to feed my son when he was a newborn. The crying? Meh,he's just teething,stop being such a fuss bucket. She would let both boys sit in soiled diapers because she couldn't stand the smell of changing them. I often wonder if those children were ever changed during the day while I was at work. Judging by the diaper rash I would say they were never changed. My X also decided not to breast feed because her words, " Eewwww, that will make my tits all saggy","Screw that". But yet men like me and thousands of others are portrayed as a drunken Al Bundy that suffered a severe head trauma after he fell off his stool at the go-go bar. If I were not around when my sons were younger I am convinced at least one of them would have died in her care. She was just that bad. Care to guess who has primary custody?

I saw the one portraying the husband as the jackass all the way thru the first time I saw it (a few weeks) ago. I was stunned that it actually got past all the marketing people, but about the same microsecond in time it dawned on me why. And that is exactly the root of the problem. Until there is a majority force of men/fathers (and, interesting and probably moreso, women/wives) to object, it will continue.

As long as men allow the women in their lives to make most of the spending decisions, stuff like this will continue.
My husband is a rare man, who knows his way around a grocery and a drug store, who is capable of choosing and picking up everything we need as staples in our pantry as well as using them so that he knows the difference between paper towel brands, which sugar is best, and which variety of bread crumbs will work when we're making stuffing for dinner. He also knows which varieties of gatorade and soft drinks are the kids' favorites, and he is the one who stocked those things in his former household, he shares half the duties in ours. But he is rare.
Until other men are like him and speak up and let Mad Ave know, the advertisers will continue to cater to what they think are the female tastes (and the teenage tastes... which as we know are all about thinking the parents are all wrong abotu everything anyways)

Thankyou for posting this excellent information. This is how the backlash should start. Carry a list in your wallet to remind you who not to give your money to. These same companies suppoprt the politicians who appoint the judges and the lawyers who perpetuate the system. ATT and Pizza Hut parent comanies are pretty big but have a lot of exposure in Britain and Australia too. Dominos may be a very good shot across the bow, their owner should be empathetic to the plight of fathers today, and they are just the right size to be severely impacted and only have one brand to protect. They have abandonded ad campaigns before when controversial. Big exposure through Nascar and other heavily male venues. A viral video disparaging Domino's use of male bashing, perhaps something using outrageous humor or stunt, along with a mail campaign asking thm to stop would probably work and be a good template for action. We need an organization like NOW to coordinate the eforts and be a central place to go to generate letter to them and others.

How, exactly, is an average man supposed to disallow his wife from making the spending decisions? This may not be true in the case of your husband but most men know, perfectly well, that the difference between their being allowed to sleep in their home at night, live with their kids and perhaps even being able to afford to drive a car--and the loss of all of these "privileges"--depends always upon the contentment of their wives with them. Any disagreement with her or attempt to deny her any privilege or authority, could result in her filing a no-fault divorce and the loss of everything he has, and "Mad Ave" knows it!
And you mean to tell me that most men believe they live in a "free" country?

On one hand, it almost sounds as if you are in agreement with how badly men are disparaged in the media. Then, you go on to support that notion by saying how "rare" it is for a typical man to know his way around a store. How would you know if it is "that rare" or not? When I shop in the grocery store, I see plenty of guys doing the shopping, by themselves and sometimes with their kids as well. They don't look confused or lost at all. And neither am I. I don't believe we are that "rare". On the contrary, I think your presumption is part of the problem.

I do the weekly shopping for the family - alone. She helps a little with the grocery list, but it is I who hops in the car and spends the hour or so up and down the lanes, reading labels, looking for deals, shuffling through the coupon book, etc. Of course, *SHE* has to inspect everything when I get home to make sure I didn't overspend, or get the wrong item, or whatever - just another part of her controlling behavior. Hmmmmmm. Maybe we are "rare" in the sense that we have our OWN ideas as to how/when/where/what to shop than they - not necessarily that OUR way is wrong or foolish, but not the same as theirs.

DH and I actually made a concious descion to shop together. Sometimes with the kids, sometimes without. It is to easy to fall into the parallel lives type of marriage if both partners do "their" thing independant of each other.
