There are "adjustment holes" that make the chain tighter. That will bring the "ball" up quicker to shut off the water supply.

However, if that doesn't work because the flapper (c0ck) is not sealing at the bottom of the tank, you will have to make a hardware store guy pee his pants.
Good luck.

I am very proud of you! My STBX still lives here so he is still doing most of it. I will say that I fixed the dryer by myself last night even though he offered to help. I needed that as a way to prove to myself that I can make it without him.
I would say though that if you can afford a cheap handyman (I see adds in the paper for rent a husband all the time) that would be a lot easier!

K.
Gotta keep this thread active because it is too damn funny to let "die on the vine" like my threads.
Had a brush with silliness last night...could NEVER describe it with the vividness that boobaby and so many other of you ladies can. Anyhoo:
It's around 7PM, and I see this poor older, gray-matted-hair lady (let's just call her "Phyllis") outside my apartment loading a U-Haul, ALONE!! I had to see if there was anything I could do to help, so I go onto the porch of my apartmernt building and say, "Excuse me. I hate to interfere, but I couldn't help but notice that it seems like you have no help. May I help you?" OF COURSE!!
Long story short...3 1/2 hours later and 80 "100" pound boxes/bags of books, old magazines, and newspapers, I could hardly move. My back and thighs are aching so badly.
She lived on the 2nd floor of my apartment building, and it is a total of 21 steps up and down to haul her "stuff". Then, I find out I'm actually carrying her "garbage" that was STACKED in her kitchen like bean bags from the "Land of the Giants"!!!
It was so gross!!! I'm a magnet for this stuff. I ask because I care, but DAMN...when was the last time this lady got rid of ANYTHING, and HOW was she even able to rent a U-Haul???
Stay off the roads in Pittsburgh, PA today!!! (Wish I would have worn my helmet, goggles, and SURGICAL mask for that "stinky" garbage move...still have not gotten my "Miracle Swiffer"!!!).
Have a great day!!!

Hey, I think you described that very "vividly". I will have to keep you in mind when I clean out my house someday if I ever move. At least I don't have 21 steps to go up and down.

Mine was doing that too, so I just bent the thing so it went up farther. Problem solved!

And here I thought you could fix everything with either duct tape or Wd-40!

Mr. R
I really enjoyed reading your thread today. It was funny, refreshing, and uplifting. You have a good heart. On behalf of Phyllis, we are honored to present to you the official ‘Golden Miracle Swiffer Award.’

Thank you movingon2. I don't need any awards, I just need to get one of those "Handy Dandy Miracle Swiffers" and see how many things I can accomplish with it!!
Damn my back and legs hurt today...how anyone can load that much weight in boxes is baffling...I'm so glad I could assist. No idea how she could have accomplished that alone, not even with a "Swiffer, helmet, goggles, and SURGICAL MASK"!!!!!
