just got doctors office call...failed the glucose test again. I'm bummed. Don't really need anymore stress right now but that's the way it goes. Only upside is that I'll deliver early so I'll have a date to be induced, yet the excitement of not knowing when is going to be taken away too. sighhhh...

I'm sorry to hear more stress for you. That's the last thing you need right now.
Hang in there.

Hate to tell you...I set the induction record at my hospital. I had gestational...just because the baby is large does not mean your body is ready for it to be born. I had to inject insulin and I was starved and emaciated by the time she was born. 4 weeks early and already 8 pounds via C-section. Problem is the baby is big and the organs are small...not good for baby. Watch you diet!! It is crucial right now!

Hey M. I know it is stressful but gestational is manageable. How many weeks are you? From the tone of your post I get the impression you were gestational before. Is that the case? I am actually a diabetes eduactor and I am one of 2 nurses in our department who run the gestational clinic. If this is your first time around and you have questions feel free to PM me and I'll give you my number so we can talk if you want a shoulder or even if you are not new to this whole thing. I am going to hope that you can manage this with diet and exercise but don't be afraid to use the insulin if you have to. That is what keeps the baby's wieght down and it is absolutely safe for you both.
Got my fingers crossed for you.

**28 1/2 weeks.

**Yes, with the last one I was gestational too. They did test me early, this was the 2nd test, but I must not have developed it too early. I was able to control the last one with diet so I didn't need insulin but I wasn't exactly happy with the induction. I'd like hubby to experience the excitement of labor starting on its own. I am nervous at having a larger chance of c-section and all the complications that the baby could have. Plus I'm craving sugar, which really stinks. It's just a bit depressing...thanks for all the good thoughts, I'm sure I'll make it through just fine but don't really need the added stress either.

11 weeks to go. If you managed with diet last time you could do the same again. Why are they inducing? Most all of our girls go natural unless they have been unable to keep their sugars down and there has been a lot of wieght gained by the baby. The goal in our clinic is to keep Baby's wt under 8 &1/2lbs. If you can do it exercise will really help, that and lots of fiber in the carbs you choose. I'm thinking of you.

They don't let you go past 39 weeks because of the complications and possibility of the baby being too big to go through the birth canal, regardless if the sugars are managed good. If you go on your own before then so be it. They say that even with ultrasound they can be off by 1 & 1/2 pounds. They are trying to minimize the risk of a c-section by controlling the delivery. Also, they want to make sure the delivery happens at the hospital due to the sugar since some women "pop" those babies out. I even had two doctors state that a lot of women lie about their sugar levels too...they don't want to control their diet but don't want to be on insulin so they fabricate their prick test numbers. I don't know why anybody would want to do that. I think that most doctors are now choosing to induce in order to limit their own liability. Last time I was scared to death that I would have to have a c-section...
