Hi all. I currently reside in New York and have two kids. We are currently going through the divorce process. During our inital hearing in court everything was suppose to remain status quo, which it has not. SHe is now taking her pay check and banking it separatly. I have saved my checks and not done anythign with them yet!!! ALl the bills are being paid from the savings accoutn which is solely in my name (undertand that it is considered joint/marital asset). I am planning to open a new account to be able to bank my payrole checks. Continue paying the Household bills out of savings while paying my own expenses out of the new account. Currently I have borrowed money from individuals to continue. What should I do?
I would keep track of all the household bills you pay without her help and ask to be reimbursed when it comes time to divvy up the assets.
I would also check with your lawyer about stopping paying any credit card bills that are in her name only, you may be able to do that as along as you tell your stbx that you are so that she can then pay it.
