I'm going to copy/paste my response to your myspace message here.
I think any hobby that has you exercising is a great hobby. It keeps your mind busy, lets you take out your frustrations with something physical, and it helps get you in great shape.
When you are in great shape, you feel so much better about yourself and that confidence works wonders whenever you are ready to start dating again.

Here's what I did over the years... took landscaping classes at the community college and landscaped my house.
Joined the church
Joined the church choir
Joined the recently divorced support group at the church
Went with some of my newly divorced support group member friends to single's events around town (EEEK... I like Match.com a LOT better than those singles dances!)
Joined a social club.
Joined a health club
Got personal training
Went to Jazzercize (no men there, but lots of company)
gathered work friends around on Friday nights for happy hours. Every week it seemed there was SOMEONE's birthday to celebrate. We checked out the local night clubs & pubs around our workplace & found the ones that had the best free or cheap happy hour food. We kept it close to the office to be convenient and spouses/dates were welcome. When our bosses gave us access to the computer system, we set up e-mail lists so everyone would know WHERE they could join the gang on any given Friday after work. The local club owners loved us for all the people we'd show up with... a bad night would be 10 people, but we averaged about 25-30 on any given Friday, for at least an hour after work.
Oh, and someone I met at a happy hour one night gathered up a group of us to start going to salsa & swing lessons at the local VFW on Thursdays.
for a while, I was booked more tightly than my husband's (over-booked) teens are... and with more variety: Personal training M, W & Fri at 6 am; support group Monday nights, Landscaping class on Tuesdays after work. Choir practice WEdnesdays, Salsa/swing dancing Thursdays, Happy hour on Fridays.
I get exhausted just REMEMBERING it. No WONDER I spent lots of weekends vegetating if I didn't have a date!

This one's worked for me. I took up at a health club and lift weights almost every day. It's nice to look in the mirror and see muscles there that weren't there before. LOL

Get out into the great outdoors, breath the crisp air and feel alive by pushing the adrenalin rush. Hiking, camping, skiing, mountaineering, mountain biking...possibilities are endless. There's just something about pusing the limits and feeling resilient to help release a desolate mind.

Gigi, I was looking forward to your reply.I knew you'd have lots of ideas, and you did!
So from your list, here are the ones I'm thinking about:
- Landcaping (seriously, I want to landscape my front yard) - Gym (swimming and kickboxing classes) - Dancing
Question about the dancing, do you need to have a partner for it or do you just go?
And singles meetings are definitely not for me. Glad to hear my opinion confirmed ny you saying they were EEEK!

Thank-you. I like all of these and they are going to make it onto my final list.

None of the dance things I've gone to require a "date."
Unfortunately, by necessity some women end up dancing with other women.
But hey guys! It's a sure fire place to meet women.

Thanks for clarifying that - I really DON'T want to dance with another woman!
