In past years I asked if my X wanted or could pick DD up twice from school. The last time she took her out more then an hour early. No we have changed the weekly pickup from school and out of those three times she has taken her out early twice. Once almost an hour and this week about 15 minutes early. The school ask that no one be picked up in the last thirty minutes of school. No reason for it just because.

She shouldn't be taking a child out of school early - it's not a good precendent to set. I would discuss it with her (she may not be reasonable) but I would try.

Do not let it go. There is no reason to leave school early and I think the judge would dimly look at this.

No. Don't let it go. She's doing it so she misses the "rush hour" when all the kids are getting on buses and getting picked up by their parents. She just doesn't want to wait 15 minutes in line with everyone else. If there is NO REASON (like a Dr appt) that she needs to get picked up early, she shouldn't be doing it. It's a bad precedent to set that you will have to deal with forever.

Picking up the kid early from school, like showing up every day with lunch and insisting the child eat with her or her father, is just all about her and not about the child. Your daughter needs to spend time with her friends at lunch, to not be the weird kid who has to leave early all the time because her mother makes her. and of course the teachers plan their days... I've never HEARD of a parent picking up a kid early unless the kid had a medical appointment that made it necessary... teachers have the right to believe that the kids little butts will be in the little seats until the final bell... they schedule their time to have the kids stand and put away thier stuff... the time for the kids to get thier coats and books to take home... they know exactly what time they need to hand out the homework sneet or permission slip so that it will get into the backpack to get home at the end of the day. It's not like they're just sitting there for the last half hour waiting for the clock to turn... it's not like it's a daycare facility where nothing goes on.

School is the kid's "job". The kid should not miss unless she's sick or has an important appointment that can't take place outside of school hours. For your ex to go grab her out of school early is as bad as if she showed up at someone's office during a staff meeting and insisted on taking her out of the staff meeting. It's crazy and disruptive and ... well, for a kid your daughter's age, it makes her the weird one out and makes her lose that last half hour of the school day for learning.

Learning how to show up, on time, pay attention, organize yourself, stay to the end of the workday... these are important skills... VERY BASIC skills... and your ex is countermanding them. It's simply weird. If she wants to home school, that's one thing... but this child is in public school and to disrupt that is simply not acceptable. It's worth bringing up.
