Hello
Foreigner maried with a US Citizen.
i am living outside the US and he is in CA.
He send divorce papers but i would like to know if i sign for the receipt of the doc is that mean that the Divorce is stating officialy.
You need to know that i can not offer a California Lawyer or airline ticket.
Can he divorce without having me sign any documents?
I would apreciate any help you could provide.

PS is there such a thing as free divorce councelor?

If you signed for receipt of the divorce documents and do not show up in court on the date of the hearing then, yes, he can be granted a divorce in your absence. If you don't show up, you lose your rights and your husband will get the divorce.

Thank you for your reply i was able to look at the documents and they are dated of June 8th 2005 and there is no court date on any of the pages. Is this document legal?
