Would like information on responsibility of dental bills of my soon to be x-wife. Filed in May, moved out of the house at the end of June, went to court in July, waiting for final paperwork of the divorce. Simple?! I received a bill from my insurance company for her dental costs ($1600) dated Aug 31st. My question is even though I am not able to remove her from my insurance until I receive the final paper work, am I responsible for this bill or do I have a legal claim against her according to Michigan law? Thanks
She should be responsible for any bills that she has accrued since the filing of divorce unless your responsible for cobra or spousal support or anything like that. You will want to put into the final judgment that she is responsible for it. I would let her know that the bill came and ask her either how she plans to pay for it or where she would like you to send the bill so she can make the arrangments for payment.
