Divorce in Chicago w/o spouse present ??

My new girlfriend has lived in Chicago for 3 years. She was married 8 years ago in Alabama. The marriage only lasted a few weeks and she has not seen him or heard from him in over 7 years.

Can she file for divorce in Chicago? If so, can anyone advise the least expensive way to do it?

I am the girlfriend and I just wanted to clarify the time I have been here in Chicago...I have lived here almost 4 years...and really cannot afford to spend a whole lot on a divorce but really would love to sweep that part of my life out the door instead of under the rug...any suggestions would be appreciated
