Separated--but do I have to stay in Virginia?

My husband and I moved to Virginia six months ago but separated a month and a half ago. When do we begin the filing process? And do I have to stay in Virginia until the divorce is final? Any help would be appreciated.

Since you've been there 6 months, you've established residency in Virgina. You need to file in Virgina. You're allowed to leave Virgina but you probably won't be allowed to take kids with you.
