My husband and I have been married for 7 years. We've done the counseling thing on and off for most of our marriage. We just fight all of the time. I'm originally from California. I have no family out here but I do have a twin sister in Washington D.C. Every time divorce comes up my husband threatens me that I'll never be able to leave Massachusetts with our two kids. Is this true? If we get divorced will I be forced to stay here to retain them? There is no way I would or ever could give them to him. I feel like he's in control everytime he throws this threat out. I don't think I'd want to move back to California but I would like to be able to move near my sister and best friends down in the D.C. or Virginia area. Also, how do I find a good divorce lawyer. Do I have to pay someone to meet with them for advice on what my options are?

Please help.

Yes, I think you should get advice from a lawyer. Knowing what your options are will help you feel more in control. Best way to find a lawyer is to ask friends and coworkers for recommendations then visit more than one. Most will charge you for initial consult. It's worth it.
