My daughter is 14 and has Down's Syndrome. I have been separated from the mother and visiting regularly with my daughter for 10 years. We were officially divorced 2 years ago.
Since my engagement last month, I am having some issues with the ex interfering with my daughter's visitation. Last week she got mad because I refused give her money outside of the support agreement so she threated to send the police to my house if I didn't bring my daughter home immediately. Ultimately, it was a big sad mess with my daughter crying and me driving her home 4 hours early.
My fiancee and I are finally fed up and it's time to gain control of the situation. I've tried talk and appeasement too long without success.
Can anyone reccommend an attorney in the area that might be experienced in this matter? My daughter is disabled so I am especially interested in someone with experience in this area.
You should check for "AAML" attorneys that practice in your NOVA county (there are several practicing in Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William). AAML stands for the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a leading body of expert family law attorneys. Members have to have at least 10 yrs experience and be recognized by local attorneys and judges for the ethics and expertise.
Moreover, look for an attorney who specializes in custody issues (your case sounds like you may need help enforcing your visitation arrangement, at a minimum).
The AAML website has a member directory. www.aaml.org. Good luck!
