Divorce Support Forums: credit card debt

HI, My husband and I do not have any joint credit cards.We are seperated and plan on divorcing.He said we should sell the house before we file because if we divorce first his credit card debt becomes my debt.Is this true? He has a gambling problem and ran up the cards with cash advances. He owes approx. $35,000.00/ I have my own credit cards which were used mainly to purchase items for the home. I owe approx $9,000.00. I am seeing a lawyer tomorrow for the initial consult. I wish we could work out an agreement with out a lawyer but I do not think at this point it is possible.He has been avoiding "talking" about what to do with the "divorce" at this point but wants to sell the house. I think I should initiate the divorce ASAP.He is not living in the house, I am and he paid 1/2 the mortgage this month but don't know what is up for next month. He only moved out the middle of Nov. Any thoughts on this would be helpful. Thanks in advance
