My friend has a current wife who took off to North Carolina with her three kids and only came back to collect her stuff. He sent her the divorce forms to sign and send back...but she is refusing because she is not sure what she wants. She has been gone for six months. She has another boyfriend she is seeing and he is seeing someone else too...you would think this was a mutual decision. He says he's tired of feeling used and abandoned and wants out but she just keeps refusing to sign the papers.

Is there anything he can do without pay expensive attorney fees?

I'd just get your friend to pay up to get the thing resolved NOW. He can go pro se and hope for a default judgement, but that may take a while and he'd have to know how to do it all. If there is no property to speak of and they are both wanting the same for the kids, it should be <$1,000 dor a lawyer to do.
