annullment or divorce??

Here goes... this is crazy and I hope you can keep up. My significant other for the past seven years is married, but has been estranged from his wife for over 7 years. Their marriage was intact only six months before they split. There is no legal seperation. They have no joint assets or children. She has a very extensive drug problem and has been charged with that plus many other things, including child molestation. She is completely out of the picture and we recently found out she is in the county jail with drug charges and more drug charges pending in another county. She was absconded on the sex offenders registery until her last arrest. We have since found out that she has remarried, so now she is married to two people at the same time. We were told that she is looking at 20 years on the drug charges. Money is tight and that is why he never got a divorce because we were told that not knowing her location for the divorce would cost us more. What would be the cheapest route for us--do it yourself divorce, annullment or what? Any ideas would be great. We have got to put this behind us because we would like to get married.

Since you know where she is and she's remarried and there's no assets or children involved, it should not be difficult at all to get the divorce executed. Go visit your courthouse and pick up the paperwork, fill it out and file it.

So, you are saying this could be done without the assistance of a lawyer?

Yes, since you don't expect it to be contested, I'd certainly give it a shot without a lawyer.
