I'm in the process of getting a divorce and wanted to know if any of you knew some of the best lawyers in Ohio? I'm on the western half but I live in a small town and want someone who can argue my situation.
Right now I'm looking at Joseph & Joseph out of Columbus. Wish I knew how good they are before I fork over the $2500 retainer fee.

Look also at people who practice exclusively in your town/county... whatever courthouse your divorce will be in. They may be little "country" lawyers, but they'll be tuned into the good 'ole boy network in the town & will be familiar with the local quirks of court.
What town are you in? If you're in or near dayton, check out a graduate of UD LAW. Same in Cincinnati. The locals who grew up there, went to school there, and practice there are all going to be very comfortable with the local idiosyncracies.

man I live in a very,very,very small town. One that wouldn't understand my situation as a stay at home dad because it's unheard of around our farming community. I'm in Logan County (Bellefontaine is where the courts are). I'd like to get a lawyer to understand my position in all this and to make things worse my wife has gotten someone who went to my school, graduated with my sister, and was at one time, the prosecuting attorney. I'm worried that that right there will be an advantage to her because this guy is familiar with the judges and eeveryone else.

So get this guy's biggest rival for business in town. It doesn't matter if your little town is sympathetic with your position or not, it depends upon what the JUDGE says. Find a local lawyer who will be in front of your judge, who can tell you if you need to do something to remove it from that judge, or if you'll be just fine despite the good old boy thing that's going on with your wife & her lawyer.
She was smart to get someone local. You do the same thing if you can. For every man getting divorced, there's a woman, so there are at least 2 lawyers in every case. Go to the courthouse and find out who are some of the lawyers appearing right now in other cases. You'll find someone.
I do understand Bellfountain's situation. I grew up in a similar town & know evactly what you mean. I also know that ALL the professionals in that town know each other, and they all distrust outsiders who try to come & change what they do. So see if you can find someone they won't think of as an outsider...
