My wife has filed for divorce and wants primary physical custody of our two children. She chose to be unemployed for the last 8 years. As a result, she needs a consignor to get her own apartment. I told her she can take all the money in our joint savings account to get her started. However, the apartments she has looked at requre proof of at least one year finances to support rent. Our joint savings account is only a third of the one-year amount. We currently own a home which (in my sole name...she signed a quit claim deed). I have put on sale. I don't want to consign for her apartment since I will be facing financial hardship myself. Until our home sells, I will be saddled with both the mortgage and child support payments. Her family doesn't want to consign either.

How should I approach this situation?
