Divorce Support Forums: My husband wants to leave

Hi, I have been married for 13 years and have 2 children. We moved in to Virginia about 6 months ago because of his job.
While I was visiting my family in July, my husband had an affair.
I found out because the lady called me and told me that my husband wants divorce and she and my husband are getting serious.
She visited him again this months. She asked me to come see her and ask him which one he wants to pick, and if he lies, we both should leave. I didn't go.

My husband says, he wants to divorce right now but may change his mind later. But he needs to be alone and think, so he left. Yesterday, he told me we are legally separated. I did not sign any paper. Do you think it is true?
He says he wants to keep both door opened right now, door to family and door to her. I know it is not fair.

Any advice what I could do to protect my kids, and my life within this next 12 months.
