Why did she seem to specifically avoid mention of the purpose of the trip? Unless she is even dizzier than I think, she should have made sure she had enough gas to start with. That is, of course, unless she was making a trip of which her husband would not approve (to a lawyer, to buy unecessary goodies, etc.) and preferred to take a chance on running out of gas rather than ask her husband for money for some, planning beforehand to blame him if she ran out. I was married to a woman like that; she would do things to get in trouble in ways like this to "teach me a lesson".
