About a month ago, I went through the final hearing of my divorce. Leading up to that point, I was forced to be 2,000 miles from my lawyer and the court and had a difficult time getting my lawyer to do much of anything that I wanted. When we got to the final hearing, the lawyer basically fought for what SHE wanted, ignored some very important points that I wanted to bring up, such as the fact that the wife changed papers to make OUR lucrative business look like HER business and the lawyer never even brought the business up in the hearing. Now I was just sent a copy of a final decree that I have been told to sign and return to her in the next five days and there are so many errors in it, it even has my wife's lawyer listed as mine and mine as hers. Her assistant now says that it is just a draft and to go ahead and sign it and then it will be rewritten. Sign a DRAFT that I don't agree with???? In addition, the same lawyer has been holding approximately $ 15,000.00 of a personal injury amount that I was awarded by the judge and will not send it to me because she apparently is trying to milk as much out of the account as she can, won't send me any invoices of what I owe her and is threatening to bow out of the case.
What happens if I go ahead and drop her from the case, at this point, before the final decree is signed? I am now finding out that none of the settlement offerings that I sent to the lawyer and that were to be submitted to the wife were even submitted to her by my lawyer. The judge, after talking to my lawyer in front of the wife but when I wasn't there, immediately sent our house to a receivership without even asking either one of us anything about it, as soon as the hearing opened and I want to see if I can back anything up or what happens if I drop my lawyer at this point.
