There are two types of custody legal and physical custody. To retain joint physical custody in Utah you have the have the children 1/3 of the year. The minimum guidelines (see utah code section 30-3-35 or 30-3-35.5 are for when parents cannot agree and they state 1 evening a week and every other weekend plus determing holidays. The determination of joint vs sole physical custody determines what worksheet is used for childsupport. Ask for what you think is in the best interest of your children and your ability to maintain a relationship with them, this will depend on thier ages, the distance you live from your former spouse. Whatever you do, do not give up joint legal custody. Also consider adding in provisions for virtual parent-time. This consider provisions for calling your kids and if possible have webcam access to talk to your kids.
