BAH and separation

I'm currently separated from active navy husband (not legally...just living separately for now). We are close to the 10 year mark in our marriage, and I am living in privately managed military housing. My husband has agreed to postpone the divorce until we've hit the 10 year mark for social security benefits. My question is this, if we file for a legal separation, will he lose BAH or will it be treated as it does if we are divorced (with the BAH dif. and all of that). Will I have to leave housing as soon as the separation is official? Can you set a date for the separation to be official like you can for CA divorce? Also we currently are in CA, but I'm wanting to leave to go to KY.(he is OK with this arrangement) Will KY likely uphold any court orders that are made in CA if we then file the divorce proceedings in KY. I've been to the initial divorce class, and still have lots of questions for JAG (obviously), but any info anyone might have regarding this would be helpful. Thanx
