Tips for success in parenting post divorce: 1/ Parent according to your values. 2/ Parent and step-parent need to collaborate and support each other in parenting. A unified parenting approach is essential. This usually requires bending rule 1. 3/ There can be different rules and different parenting styles at mom's house vs. dad's house. With resolve, it doesn't take kids long to understand and adapt to this. 4/ Consequences need to be predictable, commiserate with the infraction and consistently applied. 5/ The parent who garners the most respect from the child is the more effective parent. This is not necessarily the parent with the majority parenting time and unlikely to be the the more lenient parent.
