She got a lawyer, I was unaware of right to cont

I had no idea that my stbx was going to show up to court with a lawyer as we had both agreed to not seek legal council. However, when I arrived at the hearing to show cause she had obtained her boyfriends lawyer, and I was railroaded in court. I didn't know that at that time I could request a continuance to seek council. Is there any way to reverse what happened in that first court day, or to stop the process while I seek council? (I am in California.)
