Unlike child support, spousal support is often very difficult (if not impossible) to modify after the divorce is final, so getting it right the first time is a must!
A hypothetical question. Does anyone have first hand knowledge or a legal response to this query. Suppose an individual was receiving spousal support. But was then convicted of a crime and sent to jail/prison. Is that person still entitled to receive spousal support? Isn't the purpose of most support to assist the supported person in becoming self supporting? And if the state is supplying food, clothing, shelter and medical treatment plus any other necessities, would that not count as "support" in some fashion? Does anyone know of any prisoner that is collecting spousal support?
