Unlike child support, spousal support is often very difficult (if not impossible) to modify after the divorce is final, so getting it right the first time is a must!
Jada, that is an excellent idea to get that written into the agreement - if he cohabits or remarries or inherits his money, the support stops. My attorney told me that if I am paying the mortgage, that will count towards paying support and that I will not have to pay alimony, that the courts rarely award it to men, especially college educated ones.
I sent him a letter back in December that stated he is responsible for all the utilities and house maintenance, had him put all the same in his name, dropped him from my car insurance and cell phone accounts and made him get his own, and closed all joint accounts. This was on the advice of my attorney.
I still don't want to move back in - I really don't care about getting the house, I think his mom will eventually cough up the money - an advance on his inheritance - for him to buy it. My attorney's advice was to make his life as miserable as possible - i.e. - stop by the house, move stuff around, take things, etc. I intend to get a locksmith to make me a key so I have access.
