I did it, and it was the best move I ever made. Mine was purposely withholding required disclosure info from my ex and delaying the process because he knew my ex was respresenting himself. My ex ending up getting an attorney because he wasn't getting the info. All I had to do was tell the lawyer he was fired (that felt great). He had to give me an accounting for all of the money he claimed he was owed, and refund me the difference. The lawyer sent a letter to the court which I signed saying I did not want him anymore. Once the court signed off, I could hire another attorney or represent myself. I hired an attorney for the mediation who did what I wanted. We settled and I never even had to go to court for a final hearing. If you don't like what your attorney is doing, demand an accounting for what he is charging you for. Some of it may not even be necessary if you are agreeing to a settlement. Unfortunately, there are alot of attorneys (and others) who will take advantage of people when they can.
