Unlike child support, spousal support is often very difficult (if not impossible) to modify after the divorce is final, so getting it right the first time is a must!
I too am having problems looking for a lawyer - pro bono or some arrangements but no immediate cash retainer upfront. My issue: the court 'erroneously' set my montly income at $7,500 instead $7,900 yearly. At the start of my divorce all legal custodianship were placed under my spouse. Since I was left penniless being unemployed - disabled, I was rescued by siblings of 12 to their care. My ex mismanaged and lost all our properties literally. 14 months later I found my documents- Fed Tax returns SSA earnings statement which reflects my income much lower during the said divorce litigation period - only a fraction. Unrepresented I filed a motion to set aside based on the tax returns not presented at any time before in the court. The judge did not want to listen to my plea because it is 14 months old. The divorce is set for 'bifurcated status' next month. Quest: how do I convince the court to just look at what I have to present and even offered all the $7,500 to ex if they can find/prove one. thanks
