Unlike child support, spousal support is often very difficult (if not impossible) to modify after the divorce is final, so getting it right the first time is a must!

No, it's for life. There is no interpretative set number of years (if that were the case, the court order would have the number in it). Life means just that, life. Or remarriage. The original poster has not remarried.
Nor did she say anything about her ex becoming disabled (which would probably end spousal support). He's probably not going to get spousal support stopped.
