I'm currently in Iraq, stationed in Maine. Wife and I split right before I came out here, we are separated on good terms. Before leaving, gave her all of the furniture, the only things I have left are the TV, microwave, a mattress, washer/dryer, and my XBOX. All the essentials for a young man, right? Since deploying, (I've been gone since Christmas) I have paid off all of my outstanding bills, and have a small amount of money saved. She has run up her credit to about $20k+. She's not asking for any help from me, though I am providing what I can. My mother developed melanoma just prior to me deploying, and I have been helping support my parents to pay for the procedures she needs to undergo. We have agreed on what we divided prior to separation, but I'm wondering of te courts will mandate me picking up some of her debt, or if they will let us settle it without any legal actions. She's not requesting it, but the military likes to give the spouse more than we servicemembers feel is fair. Anyone have any experience on this?
