Was she staying at home to care for the children. If so she is a stay at home mom (SAHM) which could entitle her to SS how ever you have only been married for 9 years that might be a plus on your side. Even though you are at home that doesn't mean that you are able to take care of your children..I don't know that answer just throwing it out there. There is nothing wrong with your wife deciding not to work to take care of the kids unless she is not working and sitting on her butt all day.
