How can a woman protect herself in her house, if her abusive husband comes back in violation of the Temporary Restraining Order?

A woman in this situation is on the defensive. The abusive man has the advantages of strength. With this in mind, she should try to lock him outside if possible, and she should stay away from bathrooms, closets, or other small spaces where she can be cornered and trapped. Staying in a room with an escape route -- a door or window -- is a good idea. If possible, the room should have a phone to call for help. She should call 911 immediately and get the dispatcher’s name. When the police officer arrives, she should tell him or her what happened and get his or her name and badge number. If she is injured, she must get medical help and take pictures of her injuries.

It is a good idea to stay out of the kitchen because it is full of weapons, such as knives, pots, and pans, that the abuser can use.
