My wife will be getting the house, but she wants me to pay the mortgage. Is this equitable?

Normally the party living in the house pays for the mortgage, the property taxes, and the utilities. If you retain an interest in the house, that is, if you will be getting some of the proceeds of the house when it is sold, you may be required to pay some of the expenses attached to maintaining the house. Your lawyer can advise you on this issue. It is never recommended to have an agreement where one spouse owns the house and the other is responsible for paying the mortgage. The spouse that owns the house would be relying way too much on the ex-spouse, especially for something as important as a home.
