The first time you go onto one of these dating sites, it is a little scary. Let’s be honest. Some of the pictures people send in of themselves, at their best, are enough to make you wonder, what the heck were they thinking? But, if you approach it in the spirit it is meant to be taken, people seeking companionship, then you can get past some of the shots of bikinis and tattoos. Once you get past the giggles and understand everybody is here for the same reason, then it can become a serious endeavor.
The first time you meet someone online you should practice all the rules that apply when meeting someone at a bar. If you go out on a date with this person, always have a plan B. For women, have a friend know where you are meeting this person and a code word for “rescue me.” For men, your plan B should be a polite exit plan if your date turns out to be a dud.
