What do you mean, "no value"?

For example, you probably don’t think of a debt as having a value, since it is something that is owed, but for purposes of property settlement, a debt is property and must be allocated, or assigned, to either the husband or the wife. If it has a "negative value," it will be subtracted from the positive value of the other property. Conversely, if it is a debt owed to you, it has a positive value and will be added to the value of the other property. It is very common for a couple going through separation or divorce to have substantial debt, because financial stress is one of the main causes of relationship problems.
